Lot 1550 Wizard of Oz: Clara Blandick

American character actress (1880–1962). In 1939, after a well-regarded stage career and a string of small, often uncredited movie parts, Blandick landed her most memorable role—Auntie Em in MGM’s The Wizard of Oz. After Oz, Blandick returned to supporting and bit roles and committed suicide by suffocation at the age of 81. Vintage program cover from the March 28, 1904 presentation of The Two Orphans at the New Amsterdam Theatre, signed in fountain pen, one under her image at the bottom by Blandick, and also signed by the 11 other cast members pictured. Double matted and framed to an overall size of 15 x 16.5. In very good condition, with scattered surface creases and some mild soiling along bottom. Blandick is the most difficult to find of all the Oz main characters.
